Why see Portland Opera - Il Barbiere di Siviglia?
FIGARO! FIGARO! FIGARO!
Mischief rules the day in Rossini's infectious and inimitable 'Opera Buffa to rule them all', revisited during Portland Opera's 2018/19 season, courtesy of director Christopher Mattaliano. A delightful production that mines all the fun and frolics of this two-hundred-year-old masterpiece, prepare to fall for 'Barber' once more - or perhaps the very first time.
First premiering in 1816 Il Barbiere di Siviglia serves as a prequel to another operatic treasure, The Marriage of Figaro and gives us further insight into some of opera's most beloved characters.
What is the story of The Barber of Seville?
Our tale follows Figaro (John Moore) the Barber of Seville and a self-made match-maker. His latest project is to ensure he can sprit away the enchanting Rosina (Aleksandra Romano) to wed Count Almaviva (Jack Swanson), much to the dismay of her guardian Dr. Bartolo (Eduardo Chama), who plans to marry her himself. Will love win the day, or will Figaro's cunning schemes fail? Either way, it's a highly entertaining ride!
