The return of an enduring classic and perpetual audience favorite....
Based on the 1895 version by Petipa/Ivanov, Christopher Stowell's Swan Lake premiered to rave reviews and sell-out crowds in 2006, cementing Oregon Ballet Theatre's reputation for elegance and virtuosity, and a ballet company to watch out for. Don't miss your chance to experience the magical story of Swan Lake this year!
Designed to draw the audience into the heartfelt struggles of the prince and his snowy maiden, Stowell's intrepid reworking of the Petipa/Ivanov classic looks deeper beyond the "look, but don't touch" promise of Odille and Odette, leaving audiences with a certain pang in their hearts. Left alone by his older brothers whilst they ride off to fight for glory in wars abroad, he is young, naive and prone to a vivid imagination; one that is haunted by magical beings.
However, he is shocked to learn that all of his brothers have been killed, and he is tasked with taking over rule of the kingdom - and to rescue his family's royal legacy. And for that, he needs a wife. Unimpressed with the choice of maidens thrust before him, he escapes to the apparent safety of the forest; however, the mischievous beings who live there have their own plans for him, and a certain swan princess...
