Mark Knopfler at Keller Auditorium

Why see Mark Knopfler?

The lovesick romeo is back on the road!

Ex-Dire Straits British singer-songwriter and guitarist returns to the limelight in 2019 with a brand new tour in support of his latest record, Down The Road Wherever. Famed for his fingerstyle playing, the Brit is a unique talent with a back catalog of classics stretching back over two decades, as well as having toured in the past with Bob Dylan.

Considered to be the most celebrated British guitar hero to emerge in the 1970s and '80s, Knopfler led Dire Straits to new heady heights of fame, with his songwriting skills and finger-style guitaring played a crucial role in cementing their international success. Nowadays Knopfler has built an impressive career independently of Straits as a producer, sideman, songwriter, and film composer, working alongside some of the most respected and best-known figures in music.

Awesome as only Knopfler can be

Folks should not expect to attend a MK concert to hear old Dire Straits songs. He left DS behind in 1992 and has not looked back. Country blues and folk and deliciously mesmerizing guitar playing along with his distinctive vocals was the bulk of concert, but Speedway at Nazareth was the crown jewel. His backing band which consists of highly gifted musicians who have been with him for many years are a joy in themselves. Moody Theater is a great intimate venue. Highly recommend and I’ll be there in September to revel in Marks exceptional talent again ... Read more

I’ve seen all the Mark Knopfler solo shows and this was by far the best. The stellar ten piece band provided opportunities for varied renderings from Mark’s catalog. I, for one, would have been happier with even fewer DS songs, only two songs from the new album. If this is really the band’s last tour, they went out on top. Wolf Trap (DC area) wasn’t the best venue, but not the worst either. ... Read more
